Bealtaine or Halloween - a Southern Dilemma

Sigh - it is that time of the year again that despite it being the gateway to Summer here in the Southern Hemisphere where people should be heralding in the festival of life and light that is Bealtaine, the increasing commercialism of Halloween becomes more and more evident.

Every year I notice more "trick or treating" encouragements echoing what is largely perceived to be a American-styled "custom".

The Wheel of the Year constantly turns and for those of us south of the Equator, soon the time seasonal festival of Bealtaine will be upon us.

With the pending November release of my first book, Dancing the Sacred Wheel: A Journey through the Southern Sabbats, I thought I would share part of the chapter on Bealtaine.  If you enjoy the following, you may like to order your own copy which you can do via the Temple of the Dark Moon's web site

Three purchase options are available that include postage anywhere (1) within Australia, (2) within New Zealand, and (3) within Europe/USA.  If you have an Australia bank account and do not have a Paypal account, feel free to email me, and I will send you my account details for a direct deposit, or I will also accept money orders.

The Wait is Almost Over

This morning I picked up a proof copy of Dancing the Sacred Wheel: A Journey through the Southern Sabbats. I cannot describe the feelings that started to race through me as I held the copy in my hand.  Here was the result of what I had been slowly working towards for the eight or so years, and the result of the seed that was planted nearly ten years ago.

Nervously I started to flick through the book to see whether what unfolded was something I wanted to expose to the world ... yes, all of a sudden, I felt as if I was standing skyclad in the middle of the street.

A Time of Anticipation

It has been nearly a week since I sent the files for my book Dancing the Sacred Wheel: A Journey through the Southern Sabbats to the printers and nervously I wait for that important telephone call to tell me that the proof copy is ready for collection.  This forced patience and my building anticipation is almost driving me insane as I find other things to take my mind off the situation - my garden is getting some well deserved attention.

Another Big Year Ahead

As we enter the second week of October, this year feels like it is really speeding up.  With Dancing the Sacred Wheel poised to be going to the printers this week, I was hoping to take a break.  However, I am already being approached from people wanting to know when the Temple of the Dark Moon will be offering external training.

After much deliberation, and in light of an increasing amount of misinformation circulating, I thought that an Introduction to Traditional Wicca is needed, so on Saturday, 1 December 2012 this workshop into traditional Wicca will be held.

Our True Heritage - a poem by Thich Nhat Hanh

Yesterday I was in a local bookshop when I came across a collection of poems by Vietnamese Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh.  His poem "Call me by the True Name" has been a favourite of mine for a while and while flicking through this book of his poetry, I came across another that resonated deep within me.
