Supporting our Talented Members - Supporting Ourselves

The Pagan community can be very fickle at the best of time.  We pride ourselves on our individuality, yet ferociously guard our "secrets" (most of which have evolved from somewhere else to start with) from others.  We beat our chests when something wonderful happens to us, yet we are quick to condemn others for doing the same thing.  We can also work triedlessly away in the background, doing the Great Work that we feel called to do, without anyone else ever noticing.

Book Pre-Orders Almost Ready

I received a sample of the first three pages back from the person who is undertaking the layout and interior design of my book and I have to say that I am becoming increasingly excited watching the A4 pages of text be transformed into something that will shortly become a book.

It has taken about eight years to write, however the end is now in sight.  Pre-orders for Dancing the Sacred Wheel: A Journey through the Southern Sabbats will be taken from 1 September 2012 (if not sooner), with the published date expected later that month or early October 2013.

Acknowledging the Spring Equinox

Despite the chill of Winter refusing to subside, the Wheel of the Year still turns, and soon we will be finding ourselves at the Vernal, or Spring Equinox.

For the last couple of years the Temple of the Dark Moon has organised a family friendly picnic in Bonython Park (where our Autumn Equinox picnic is held).  This year we will try another venue - that of Botanic Park where we hold our Full Moon Gatherings, that occur during the Winter months.

Book Update

So much has happened over the last fortnight, that I am only now starting to catch up on things.

Having spend a weekend in Melbourne (as we viewed the Wonders of Mesopotamia exhibition that is showing at the Melbourne Museum until early October 2012 (which is highly recommended), I then gave a presentation on ritual drama at the Pagans in the Pizzabar gathering the night after we returned.  That followed, the ritual that I had been working on for the last few months, which was based around a lesser known Mesopotamian Deity, was undertaken by the Temple of the Dark Moon's Inner Court.

Counting One's Blessings

About four or five months ago it was brought to my attention that someone I knew (albeit not very well) had been diagonised with an aggressive form of cancer. Since that time surgery was undertaken as well as a whole range of tests were done.  Results from a full body scan last month revealed "spots" on the kidneys - which required more tests, x-rays and further scans.

When Mercury is in retrograde ...

Mercury is the planet that governs communication, intellect and awareness.  It deals with logic and reasoning, our manner of thinking, and how we create and express our thought processes verbally and written, with the latter including online communication (such as emails, Twitter, and Facebook).  With this in mind, if you have experienced "communication breakdowns" over the last month, then there could very well be a good reason to this.  Mercury has been in retrograde.

Bealtaine Magickal Retreat

Spring may be only just making its presence felt but as the energy of the land starts to speed up as it moves out of its Winter slumber, soon it will be the time of the Spring (or Vernal) Equinox. Then, before we know it, the gateway of Summer, marked by the festival of Bealtaine, will be upon us.

This year's Bealtaine Magickal Retreat, hosted by the Temple of the Dark Moon, will take place over the weekend of 3 and 4 November 2012.  Situated in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, surrounded by both native bush and pine plantation, limited places are available for those Pagan-orientated folk who wish to join us.

As the Wheel turns ... the Imbolc Gateway

Last Wednesday evening saw a double event happening in the Botanic Park.  Not only was it the monthly Full Moon Gathering that the Temple of the Dark Moon hosts during the Winter months, but it was also Imbolc, the gateway, or the beginning, of Spring.  So despite the temperatures plummeting, a group of dedicated moon worshippers gathered.

The chilly night's air depicted the moon with a ring around it which is caused by the refraction of moonlight (which of course is reflected sunlight) from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. The shape of the ice crystals results in a focusing of the light into a ring.

We were not the only inhabitants in the park this evening ... circling around the trees were a number of flying foxes that had been "removed" from the neighbouring Botanical Gardens last year due to the damage they were starting to cause to some of the rare plants within the gardens.
