Awakening the Self

Spiritual awakening to the true Self is one of the goals of many metaphysical pursuits. It is the path of leaving behind illusions of separation and identification with the mind, body and spirit for true knowledge of our oneness with the Divine. It involves an understanding of Self and the truth of the Divine. By fully accepting that the body, mind and spirit are intimately related, a person can transcend normal consciousness to gain an awareness of self and the surrounding Universe.

Enlightenment, a deep understanding of the three aspects of the Self, is the true goal.

As Gabriel Cousen advises in Nutrition: Six Foundations for Spiritual Life and the Awakening of Kundalini that:

“Self-realisation is the knowing – in the body, mind and soul – that we are one with the omnipresence of God [the Divine]; that we do not have to pray that it comes to us, that we are not merely near it at all times, but that God’s omnipresence is our omnipresence; that we are just as much a part of Him now as we will ever be. All we have to do is improve our knowing.”

This spiritual awakening generally refers to gaining an awareness of the connections between body, mind and spirit. There are many paths of self-realisation that can teach us how to awaken the Self, and in doing so, we gain the grace of becoming self-realised, and are able to cultivate spiritual energy that in turn assists us to experience the nature of the true Self.

The self-realisation of our awakening is a natural process of our true Self unfolding and can be likened to the process that a flower undergoes in blooming.

Awakening describes a higher state of consciousness where the mind, body and spirit come together.  It is one of the primary goals of many metaphysical sciences, designed to enable people to see beyond the daily grind to better understand the Self and the Universe around them.

One of the ways to assist with the awakening of the Self, not to mention the self realisation when this occurrs, is through chakra meditations.  This pursuit focuses on the body's aura as well as the energy centres within that align with specific aspects within the human body.  Once such awareness is obtained, so too does the awareness of our own "personal" or inner power.  When we realise that we have the ability to tap into and draw from our own personal power source, anything is achievable.

Working with the energy flows, discovering our own personal power and indepth discussion of the chakra system forms the focus of the next Monday Night Meditations that will take place on Monday, 17 June 2013 (7:30pm to 8:45pm) in Parafield Gardens, Adelaide (as no class will be held on the public holiday Monday, 10 June 2013).

  1. Awakening generally refers to gaining an awareness of the connections between mind, body and spirit. It can, for example, refer to an awakening of the third eye or brow chakra that enables people to see beyond the physical. A spiritual awakening can involve gaining the insight and wisdom to better understand the divine.
